Freshwater Inbound On The Seadrift Riviera!

Castaway Lodge Seadrift Report

Higher water levels have produced some gynormous fish boxes of late as we head into the back half of the month in warmer than normal temperatures.  Schooling Black Drum are starting to mix with Redfish as they head for the spawning grounds of the far back reaches.  Tides will push them around and send them probing the shallowest of locales, scurrying to the safer depths of the deeper back lakes on tide fallouts and temperature shifts.  I've seen days where you just can't hit the Redfish hard because the Black Drum just won't let Redfish feed.  That's a good problem to have at times!  Of course, Airboat Trips are just off the charts right now taking heavy boxes with our bayboats not faring poorly either.

Brownie season just opened so we're hoping to see live shrimp start showing up at area bait camps.  Wind breaks should offer a look at excellent opportunities on mid-bay oyster reefs for Trout shortly.  Best bet on Trout to date has either been wading or drifting artificial lures.  Popping cork shrimp will take off once the Brownies show and we'll see what the population looks like here shortly.  Last season's flooding made for heavy stringers while wading shorelines but boat fishing was sub-par based on historical levels.  We'll be looking for a shift back toward old school levels once again as fresh water continues to make it's way into the bays again this Spring.  Bring it on!  If we never see a drought again, it will be too soon.

Lodge News

We're heading for the end zone with drywall approaching quickly; Cory Leita is staining the floors today and we're looking for a pretty quick domino into drywall barring any unforseen delays.  If you thought our old footprint was "a great setup", hmmmm, wait until you see the New Castaway Lodge on The Bayou!

WET & WILD - WADE FISHING PROMOTION!

To celebrate the big push toward Drywall, we thought we'd throw some special pricing your way!  Welcome to our WET & WILD PROMO focusing on wade fishing the bays and back lakes!  Wade fishing is a lot of fun and it's a great approach to catching lots of fish or that Trophy Trout or Redfish you've been looking for.  From Novice to Advanced, our staff experienced local guides is looking forward to getting in the water with you.  If you're an "old salt" we'll give you as much help and guidance as needed but for the inexperienced, look for a "hands on" introduction to wade fishing.  Mention our "WET AND WILD" Promo for a 10% discount off lodge package pricing Monday - Wednesday's now through August 31st or click WET & WILD for more information.
