What looked like a meltdown in the making for Litigation Solutions, Inc. coming in with a three boat, 2 day trip starting on Friday, August 8th actually turned out better than anticipated based on conditions leading up to the trip. Capt. James Cunningham took top honors with Trout limits and a couple of Redfish. I managed to squeak in with better than half limits of Trout. Saturday, Capt. James came in with near limits of Trout while I managed 27 for a party of four fishing with Luis G. and guests from Austin. Capt’s Boldt and Medlin put down a hard grind for a handful of Trout.

We didn’t pick up any additional water level with Edouard, tides seem to be constant and slightly on the low side according to Capt. Steve Boldt scouting today ahead of artificial lure trips late week. Late week and into the weekend, we welcomed Clay C. and guests along with Jim K. and a two boat trip. Get’em while it’s early was the motto and all parties managed around half limits on Trout to 20”. It’s interesting how fast the fish are moving, one day there on something and the next day it’s ghost city. That’s what keeps us interested and digging in for success, every day’s a new day at times.
We are continually working deep shell and probing both windward and leaward areas. Capt. James Cunningham located some solid Trout in the 19 to 23” range working points and drop-offs in Mesquit ...

We’ve learned more and more everyday on the water after the big water push associated with Hurricane Dolly. First day back on the water we had four boats fishing various groups with mixed results from limits of Redfish and a few Trout all the way down to Trout numbers in the single digits. Day 2 was better with double digit Trout numbers and improving but still gutted water conditions throughout much of the bay. Day 3 found double digit Trout numbers again with some groups approaching near limits. So, things are rebounding nicely after the blow and flood tide. It’s soft in places and timing can be everything right now. We’ve dumped a considerable amount of water and that’s good news.

Last report I mentioned that winds were backing down and my expectation was that fishing would explode as Mother Nature removes her protective blanket from the fish. That’s exactly what happened late week. Capt. James Cunningham managed near limits on Thursday with things improving rapidly in terms of water conditions. The Lodge welcomed Walt S. and guests from Brenham; Stuart L. and family from Houston; and, Navasota Energy group for a “team building” session. James and I both managed to limit out on Trout to 18”. Fish size was a little small and there were a ton of little Trout. That’s to be expected in the throws of a Full Moon with the tide dying around 8:00am. Capt. Jake Huddleston fishing the Stuart L. party had near limits as well working the same structure over shell in 4’ of water. Overall we managed 92 Trout out of a possible 100. Sunday, things improved slightly as Travi ...

Quick rebounding in Bay waters is evident when the wind backs down a little bit and the tide comes roaring in. Jockeying High and Low Pressure has kept the wind on us pretty good during the last week. Strong fishing has pushed us through what at times appears to be impenetrable conditions. Currently, we’ve got winds leaning out of the West and SW which has dropped water levels in the bay roughly 8” to a foot. Buried in water during the last Low Pressure system in from Mexico, the fish didn’t like it much and neither did I. I welcomed the water drop today and Trout limits corresponded for Archie S. party from Georgetown.
The Lodge welcomed a Real Estate Group from Austin during the week along with the Joe V. party from Georgetown and the Jim S. party from Baytown. I led Joe V. ...

Fishing continues to be strong through the Tropical Depression and Low Pressure through the 4th of July “big weekend”. We’ve been running and gunning pretty hard beating the weather and dodging rain. Right now, the game is best played early and aggressively.

Trout so thick you can walk on them? That may be the explanation of the feeding frenzy that surrounds the peculiar means to which they are hooked. To add further mystery, most of the fish are solid Trout. Something else that’s peculiar, but more of a testament to the high salinity in San Antonio Bay presently, is an unusual number of small Black Tip Sharks. The toothy critters are jockeying for position on some structure with Trout and I’ve already seen some Specks showing signs of a “close encounter” of the Jaws variety.

When you’ve been penned down by the wind for weeks on end, particular dates stand out. Thursday, June 12 th will stick in my mind for awhile as that’s the date that the wind laid down in the evening. What has happened since is an explosion of productive fishing in virtually all venues. With so much structure opening up quickly, it took us a few minutes to track down fish concentrations. Starting on June 17 th, we began a “full limit run” on Trout here at The Lodge that hasn’t stopped as of this writing. The Capt’s of Castaway Lodge actually left very successful fishing that was essentially “wind proof” in search of emerging concentrations of fish over classically productive structure. I was impressed for a short time with some fish over deeper shell in ESB that have been void the passed several years. High concentrations of male Trout dropped the expectat
