When you’ve been penned down by the wind for weeks on end, particular dates stand out. Thursday, June 12 th will stick in my mind for awhile as that’s the date that the wind laid down in the evening. What has happened since is an explosion of productive fishing in virtually all venues. With so much structure opening up quickly, it took us a few minutes to track down fish concentrations. Starting on June 17 th, we began a “full limit run” on Trout here at The Lodge that hasn’t stopped as of this writing. The Capt’s of Castaway Lodge actually left very successful fishing that was essentially “wind proof” in search of emerging concentrations of fish over classically productive structure. I was impressed for a short time with some fish over deeper shell in ESB that have been void the passed several years. High concentrations of male Trout dropped the expectat

Despite a light show all night long with numerous Thunderstorms, North wind kicking, 1' tide fallout, and gar hole water, we managed to continue our full limits streak, with Lawrence Marshall Dodge, that started Tuesday, June 17th. It's no mystery why the fishing has improved, winds have died down and the water, even though fairly unstable due to silt and turbidity, continues to improve.
Yesterday, 6/21, The Lodge welcomed Trinity Medical and guests for a two boat trip. As the last Trout came on board, I looked at my watch and said "either it's broken boys or it's 7:15am". Today, however, was a much different story after the overnight stroms and 180 degree wind shift. A little patience and a broad repertoire
of fish over structure was all we needed. That's about what it took.
Come home when you can!

The pace is definitely picking up a bit with the winds backing down into the low-teens. The water is trying to straighten out and the fish are responding well in places. Success over the week has been a combination of going “old school” and hitting some locations not seen in years along with tried and true humps, lumps, and points that have been steadily producing of late.

It looked like things were going to dial down a notch wind wise Saturday and we decided to give it a shot. The Lodge welcomed OTM Roofing of Houston along with Cerqa Copyright from Austin. Results were all that we could hope for as we started slamming Redfish on every cast. Then the Trout moved in and we managed full limits of Redfish to 26” and released another 8 in the low to mid-slot along with 10 Trout to 26”. The big girl was released to fight another day, however. Capt. James Cunningham managed 4 Redfish and also had 10 Trout to 26”.

Castaway Lodge low-profile fishing hats “have arrived” and are priced at $12.50 each in Khaki and White! That’s the headline for this report only because it has been a six month siege getting them done with every potential mishap you could imagine along the way. . . whoo hoo! They look great!
