What looked like a meltdown in the making for Litigation Solutions, Inc. coming in with a three boat, 2 day trip starting on Friday, August 8th actually turned out better than anticipated based on conditions leading up to the trip.  Capt. James Cunningham took top honors with Trout limits and a couple of Redfish. I managed to squeak in with better than half limits of Trout. Saturday, Capt. James came in with near limits of Trout while I managed 27 for a party of four fishing with Luis G. and guests from Austin. Capt’s Boldt and Medlin put down a hard grind for a handful of Trout.

I felt like we were approaching a rebound and I had located some fish patterning in off color water eating shrimp and hammering free-lined finfish. As I got them dialed-in, the wind started cranking Sunday and it’s still whipping ahead of an unusual August cool front. Instability looks like the word for coming days but that’s nothing new this season. Associates of mine that count on a big run of days in the surf have managed 4 days there this season. What’s bad for surf fishermen is usually good for the bays if we can get the winds below our 17 knot breaking point. Tide exchanges have been weak and water conditions can vary wildly under “mild winds”. You’ve got to “run the bay” looking for pockets of fishable water intercepting productive structure. When you hit it right, it can yield explosive results.

With a cool front beginning a push here in August, we may be set for following fronts more traditional of Septembers in the past. That would enhance Fall fishing beyond what has been just awesome over the last couple of years.
