End of Cast & Blast Scene

Capt. James Cunningham reported thick schools of fishing that had balled up in fallout areas on the first extreme low tides of the season.  What are the odds we'd wait until the full moon on the last weekend of duck season to get some "traditional" low water.  Timing is just crazy and we can't pick it that's for sure.  Typically, we're dealing with low water from mid-December has back to back strong cold fronts have that water pushed out of the bays.  Prolonged periods of low water give us a chance to track bird and fish movements and look for patterns and make adjustments.  With the first low water of the season on the last weekend of duck season, neither us nor the birds had any visibility on this condition and we had to do some guessing.  That worked out on some shoots and failed on others.

Fishing Scene

Sending guests on afternoon fishing trips had our eyebrows pulled back with a bunch of tight lip pushing and backing but no real feeding activity.  That can get a little frustrating watching fish prowl around all over the place but not strike.  Capt. Pete Gray had the best luck late in the afternoon after countless stops on schools with lock jaw, he finally got them to open up taking near limits.  It will be interesting to see what February holds? Is Winter finally going to kick in strong or are we going for an "Indian Spring".  I'm betting on the latter and that's going to get the reels respooled immediately.

Horizons

We'll be working drop offs and pools, guts and bayou's if the weather stays cool.  If not, we'll be looking for the fish to move up shallow and look to intercept them with soft plastics and topwaters as water temps rise.  Late Winter into Spring is a great time to stalk the flats with your favorite artificial lures and you never know when "that big" is going to thump the line.

Horseshoes On The Bayou

By now you know we've been developing and reshaping nearly 500' of bayou frontage on adjacent an adjacent property here at the lodge.  Last week was a big week for us in terms of the schedule and we've poured the foundation for the new quarters building and finished the base sitework.  The grounds are far more advanced on the timeline than the vertical construction since we've been on that since September.  We managed to get all three of the new Horseshoe Pits installed and functioning and I tell you, there's going to be some fun in the shade right there now.  We managed to pause for a moment to enjoy them. Check out the pics.

Legendary Airboat Fishing

We've mentioned our offering of 30% off our normal "affordable" pricing for the month of February and we've always had to exclude "our legendary Airboat" trips due to operational costs and the likes.  This February, to celebrate our massive construction effort and development objectives, we're going to extend a 15% discount on February Airboat Fishing Trips during weekdays, Monday thru Wednesday for the entire month of February.  If you've been looking for an opportunity to experience this high octane adventure, call the lodge for scheduling and mention the promotional code HIGH OCTANE! we have two custom Air Ranger airboats that will get you into the action.
