Trout to 25", Reds to 27.75 With a Point 03 Nail Biter!

Castaway Lodge Seadrift Report
By Capt. Kris Kelley

Hot surf action early week quickly turned treacherous with big swells and wave heights as Ernesto pushed into the lower Gulf. Solid Trout to 25" was a lot of fun while it lasted. Late week with winds building over night, we found ourselves with a lot of ugly water to deal with. We shifted our focus toward Redfish with mixed results ranging a lot of water. Friday's entry in the Oilfield Helping Hands tournament in Port O'Connor is something we always look forward to.

With Trout action waning for us we targeted Redfish and managed to check in a 27.75" bruiser that led us to a Micheal Phelps finish taking the Silver Medal losing out to the top fish by three hundredths of a pound. Lots of fun for the kiddos and I was proud that my team has placed "in the money" for the kiddos since the inception of the tournament and this year took home a check for $400 plus a lot of goodies.

Hats off to Capt. Chris Cady for keeping the wheels turning around here while Wendi and I slipped out for a bit of R&R. He's been keeping the Redfish busy as well taking full limits with Steve N. and guests and near limits for clay A.; Tim T. and Dustin M. groups. Capt. James pulled some heavy Redfish out of thin air working mud/shell with Mary L. and family and a heavy box for Randy K. group out of Victoria.

Back to school is in the air and we've enjoyed fishing with everyone sneaking in those last minute trips before the school schedule begins. We've got our eyes on September transitions and we're certainly looking forward to the cooler weather.

Like us on Facebook and we promise to "love you back"!
