Drag Burners Just Getting Warmed up

Castaway Lodge Seadrift Report
By Capt. Kris Kelley

Sponsored by: Mercury Marine; Air Ranger Airboats; Haynie Bay Boats; Baysport Marine Victoria; Castaway Rods; JL Marine; Pure Fishing; and, Bob's Machine Shop.

The fishing scene continues on a hot streak coninciding perfectly with the warmer temperatures of August. Hit is hard and early has been our "go to" and that has put a smile on a plenty of faces here at the lodge lately. From mud/grass to sand/grass shorelines, schools of Redfish solidly in the slot and beyond have been working tight to grass lines. As I mentioned in previos reports, this is going to continue to escalate heading into the cooler weather in September.

We look for continued action to broaden as winds hopefully find some level of stability besides "gusting and pushing 25 knots". It has absolutely played right into our game plan and I've got to take my hats off to everyone for executing at a high level.

Alligator/Teal/Dove

We are on the countdown to the 2014 Texas Alligator Season opener on September 10th with the season running through the 30th. Dove is looking good if we can keep the rain off the near season opener and Teal will be fast and furious with birds starting to show up with each approaching front in September. This is a great time to take in a Cast & Blast with family, friends, or deserving staff and clients.

Duck/Goose Season Dates

As we had envisioned, Duck and Goose season will open on November 1st and run through the 30th for the first split. The season will re-open on December 13th and run through January 25th. Dark Geese will close on January 11th. Goose season runs straight through the duck splits with "Regular Snow" harvest ending with ducks on January 25th.
We look forward to a great season, come see us!
