"Pura Vida on the Texas Coast"

Castaway Lodge Seadrift Report

Exreme conditions still visit as we search for a rhythm here on the middle coast. Capt. Chris reported that it's been banging with winds in the 20's one day and slicked off the next. We are familiar with having our head on a swivel but it sure is nice to relax the neck muscles every now and then when we hit a stride. Right now a rhythm might be 2 to 3 days at the most before something dramatic takes to the waters in terms of weather and condition fluctations.

Solid Trout pushing into the 20's continue to grace the decks with quick retreats back toward Redfish haunts when things aren't looking good on open water structure. Capt. James E. reported solid Redfish action with mixed Trout on Saturday making for a solid box. As we push into late July and heading into early August we'll be looking for solid Redfish action to heat up heading toward the cool fronts of September.

Lodge News

Wendi and I are wrapping up the last of our 2 week stay in Costa Rica today. We'll be heading back to our own bed tomorrow and look forward to some great days on the water. One thing about Costa Rica, besides the beauty of the country, the vibe from all the people is so warm. They say "Pura Vida" and we hope to bring that spirit back with us. For guests, everything has been seamless here. We'd like to say thanks to our hosts including Texan Trey Derrick with Senderos Da Paz (find him on facebook or VRBO.com); Arenal Manoa Resort in the mountains of the La Fortuna area; and everyone at Tulemar Luxury Villas in Quepos.

While we've travelled far and wide, there's one thing I'm always reminded of and it crosses my mind at some point on every adventure abroad. That is my feeling that the Texas Gulf Coast is "one of the last really special places". I have no doubt the Castaway Lodge makes it even more so. The value, services, and experiences our guests find would outrank any excursion we've ever experienced and we've been on some good ones. I think since it's in our back door, sometimes we take it for granted. We hope you will keep us in mind when planning your next getaway, come see us when you get a chance.
