Castaway Lodge Seadrift Report
By Capt. Kris Kelley
Back in the saddle, no doubt about it. There's a few challenges out there on a daily basis right now. Wildly ranging bay conditions from slick-offs; big winds; spinning wind directions; T-storms; stagnant pools of "Hot Jelly Garholes" and "low-tide floating grass signature blows" of water that will pretty much keep you on the throttle.
Despite the challenges, we're staying "bowed-Up" and meeting each day with the optimism that must be present from a professional stand point. Trout to 23" and some heartbreaker "bigs" have been keeping us on our toes along with Redfish pushing the bounds of the slot.
August Is Big Trout Month
The last couple of days, wade fishing has been outproducing boat fishing on Trout while Redfish seem open to either. We expect more of the same for the near term with things hopefully giving us direction heading into August. August will see the return of Trout to mud/grass; usually in big winds; for another run at a spawn. August is a big Trout month for us here on the mid-coast. With salinity levels backing down, we should be seeing them make a move shortly.
If you haven't gotten your "fix" and enough fun in the sun, give us a shout and come see us when you can!
Alligator Season Notes
We are narrowing down the few remaining Alligator hunt date openings at this time. We still have 9/16-18 available if anyone is interested in some big Texas Lizards. Contact the lodge for pricing and scheduling.
